History of Street Fighter II: Champion EditionStreet Fighter II: Champion Edition was a first of many updated versions of the original Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. It was released for the arcades by Capcom in 1992. The game is the classic Street Fighter II with additional features. It is a duel type fighting game, with a variety of selectable characters, and many different techniques and special moves available for each. Multiplayer mode is available as a 1 vs 1 fighting stage. The main changes, in comparison with the Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, consist of the addition of the final four computer-controlled opponents in the single player mode as the Grand Masters (sagat, M Bison, Balrog and Vega) — playable characters; the addition of mirror matches, which allowed to have your selected character as an opponent as well. The fighting techniques of the main characters were also refined to allow more balanced competitive gameplay. Street Fighter II: Champion Edition was ported to many other platforms, including the PC Engine, Master System, Sega Genesis (aka Mega Drive) consoles, PlayStation and many others. It was followed up by Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting, released just several months later. The game was a huge success, exceeding $2.3 billion in gross revenue. It was one of the top 10 biggest grossing arcade games of all time and received a 10 out of 10 from Famitsu magazine's Reader Cross Review in 1993.
