History of XyonixXyonix is an arcade puzzle game, created by a Korean company Philko in 1989. The game features classical tetris gameplay in a somewhat Chinese setting with examples of European classical music, such as pieces by J. S. Bach or F. Chopin playing in the background. There are seven different difficulty settings available for selection; each of them, except for the first one, features a different message in the beginning of the game and a specific complication, like appearing additional lines. Each setting also has different falling speed of the pieces. This coin-op game can be played by two players simultaneously, as there is a second game area provided on the right side of the screen. Xyonix has received many controversial reviews. Starting with a symbol of swastika that can be seen on the roof of the background building in the central part of the screen, which is misconceived to be connected to the Nazi while in fact it is a religious symbol in many eastern confessions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism; continuing with the discussion about the music for it being mostly badly done 8-bit versions of classical pieces; and ending with comments about the game being unoriginal, irritating and having ridiculous difficulty setting where the game would automatically speed up the falling speed of the pieces as the player would be closer to losing. Apart from receiving quite a number of negativity, some still say it is a good game and a challenging version of the classical tetris.
