History of Boulder Dash

Boulder Dash is an original puzzle game, first released in 1984 for the Atari 8-bit computer and later purchased by First Star and rereleased by them. It was the starting point to the large Boulder Dash series and is currently the most well-known game of First Star.

The main character, which is controlled by the player, is named Rockford. He has to wander into numerous caverns and collect valuable gems and diamonds in order to reach the exit. There are many dangers awaiting the character, such as falling boulders, ominous creatures and the constant danger of being crushed or trapped by an avalanche, or killed by an underground explosion.

The game follows a classic puzzle maze pattern, with many different levels and possible solutions. It was immediately positively received and spawned sequels, remakes and multiple ports to all available platforms. Most of the versions were reviewed as "the best game ever written", scoring up to 90% in various sources. The ZX Spectrum version was voted number 9 in the Your Sinclair Official Top 100 Games of All Time.

There are at least 5 different versions and sequels of the original game, the last being Boulder Dash: 30th Anniversary - a freemium game released for Android and iOS in 2014 interactive in collaboration with FirstStar and the original creators.
