History of Air Attack

Air Attack is a vertically scrolling shooter arcade game that was released by a Korean company Comad in 1996.

The game features classic action of the space shooter genre. The player contols a jet fighter and has to battle numerous enemies which appear on the screen. Enemy ships fire missiles which must be avoided. There are four collectable power-ups available on each level; they all upgrade the weapon of the player's ship with a different kind of missiles, but are lost upon death. The player's ship has only one hit point, so dying is extremely common in this game. Each level ends with a boss fight. The game also has a cooperative two player mode.

Despite being a very well-made, fluent and enjoyable game, praised for its solid gameplay, Air Attack has an incredible amount of stolen sprites and music. The amount of games that are "referenced" through the stolen art exceeds any understandable limits. The most amusing fact about it is that all the games that "contributed" their sprites or music to Air Attack are very well-known and popular in the gaming community.

The game did not receive any sequels, nor was it transported to other platforms. It remains a curious and entertaining example to all gamers that are familiar with the popular games of the time, as it brings up additional challenge in recognising where the stolen art comes from.
