History of Diver Boy

Diver Boy is a platform coin-up arcade game, released in 1992 by an Italian company Electronic Devices. It is one of the later works of the company.

In the game, the player (two player mode also available) controls a small boy that has to dive from the surface of the water to the sea floor in order to collect pearl clams and various precious things that can be found with them. There are many kinds of clams to collect, some of them open up only at certain times or conditions.

Each stage features different kinds of creatures to avoid - mostly, exotic tropical fish, mines, and sharks. There are several power-ups available in the game, including a submarine, which can shoot and swim freely underwater (normally, the boy is constantly being pulled towards the surface). Each stage ends with a boss fight, while controlling a submarine.

Diver Boy has appealing graphics and visual effects, solid gameplay and fluent pace. Despite the fact that some of the enemies move incredibly slow compared to the character, the game still has enough action. However, as the levels get more and more difficult, there often occur situations where the player cannot avoid losing a life.

Diver Boy is considered to be a reversed Bomb Jack type of game and is blamed for stealing all of the music from Data East's Tumble Pop.
